Country plans: whole countries gridded for Google Maps

A country plan is a grid of search points that covers a whole country. SweepLead runs your search from each of these points, which gets past the limit of about 120 results of a single Google Maps search (why that limit exists).

Countries and their points

The United Kingdom brings together England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, sold as a single country. The United States plan covers all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

How a plan is built

• The data: borders and regions from Natural Earth (public domain), towns from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0).
• The grid: one point every 40 km inside the borders.
• Empty areas: no point where no town of at least 1,000 people lies within 25 km.
• Cities: at least one point for every city of 50,000 people and for every region.
• The check: in every country, 99 to 100% of towns of 10,000 people lie within 45 km of a point.

Points are grouped by region: you run the whole country or only the regions you tick. In big cities, a saturated point is split into 4 sub-points during collection.
